Top Gear Mexico slurs send trio into tailspin
Racist jibes from Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have angered Mexico.
The video has been yanked from YouTube by the BBC, but you can catch this report here.
Presenters Richard Hammond called Mexicans “feckless” and “lazy”. He said a Mexican-made sports car would mirror national stereotypes: “They’re going to be a lazy, feckless, flatulent … leaning against a fence asleep, looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat”.
Presenter James May described Mexican food as “re-fried sick”. Jeremy Clarkson said Mexico’s ambassador wouldn’t notice the remarks because he would be sleeping.
Mexico’s ambassador Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza was indeed paying attention and fired off a letter to the BBC, demanding an apology.
