Butt calls nearly 40 PERCENT of 911 calls in New York

NYC Faces Butt Dial Dilemma

We’ve all done it: called someone we didn’t mean to — with our BUTT. But (ahem) you probably didn’t realize the scope of the problem. Nearly 40 percent of 911 calls in New York are “butt dials,” also known as pocket dials, a staggering 4 million calls per year. Each time a New Yorker accidentally butt-dials the NYPD, operators have to waste valuable time determining if the call is legitimate or not. New York isn’t doing much to fix the problem, says the local NBC affiliate: “Despite the findings, the report says the city has done nothing to account for or combat the accidental 911 calls, which are generally shorter than calls reporting actual emergencies.”…

Tebow’s cherry for $1 million: AshleyMadison

Tebow’s virginity worth $1 million: AshleyMadison

Tebow’s virginity is worth $1 million. That’s the bounty controversial “dating” site Ashley Madison has placed on the New York Jets quarterback’s maidenhood. In its latest publicity stunt, AshleyMadison, which offers opportunities for “discreet encounters” for those who are in relationships or married, has a new goal: proving Tim Tebow is not a virgin. Think about it. Tebow’s good-looking, an NFL player and an Evangelical Christian. The probability that he is a virgin should be slim-to-none. But the athletic demigod stands behind his faith, maintaining that he indeed has never knocked boots with anyone. Tebow, a poster child for Christianity, has kept quiet while this has been going on, and surprisingly so has the hoard…

Arthur Sulzberger a putz, says NYT reporter Don McNeil

Arthur Sulzberger a putz, says New York Times reporter Don McNeil

New York Times reporter Don McNeil ripped publisher Arthur “Pinch” Sulzberger Jr. for piloting a “ghost ship” and being being overly fond of management fads and leadership gurus as the paper languishes amid labor strife, in an email sent to roughly 150 New York Times employees. McNeil said Aurthur Sulzberger spends too much time traveling overseas and speaking at conferences while the New York Times and its staff are in open conflict over the latest collective bargaining agreement and the paper lacks a proper CEO (Sulzberger currently serves as interim CEO). “[O]ver the last 20 years, Arthur has adopted a series of management consultants.” McNeil writes in the email published by Gawker. “First there was…

Ryan Gosling saves woman, slays our hearts

Hey girl: Ryan Gosling saves woman, slays our hearts

Movie star Ryan Gosling saved British writer Laurie Penny from an oncoming car when she stepped out blindly into New York City traffic Tuesday. “Ryan Gosling grabbed me away from a taxi,” Penny tweeted that evening. She said she looked the wrong way before crossing the street because she is accustomed to traffic flowing in the opposite direction in London. Penny has apparently been inundated with press requests following the incident. She claims she is turning down interviews, choosing to instead address the hoopla via a Gawker blog post Wednesday. The star of much buzzed-about films like Ides of March and Drive, there are few other celebrities as popular as Gosling right now. His good…

Goldman Sachs sells stake in trafficking website

Goldman Sachs sells stake in Backpage trafficking website

New York Times columnist and crusader against human trafficking Nicholas Kristof discovered that Goldman Sachs used to own 16 percent of Village Voice Media, which operates prostitution site Backpage.com. Backpage.com has dominated the market for sex ads since Craigslist stopped running them. The site earns Village Voice Media $25.4 million a year. In his article, Kristof calls Backpage the “biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States” and says that while many ads run in Backpage.com are for adult escorts, Backpage also “plays a major role in the trafficking of women or minors who are coerced” into prostitution. Goldman Sachs was “mortified” when Kristof began his reporting, Kristof says, and began…

Woodson, however, has a reputation for toughness and puts on a poker face.

Tebow traded from Denver Broncos to New York Jets

Tim Tebow takes the Big Apple

Tim Tebow has been traded to the New York Jets by the Denver Broncos. The news comes just one day after Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos. Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer broke the story on Wednesday on Twitter. The Jets traded their fourth- and sixth-round drafts picks in exchange for the young, polarizing quarterback from the University of Florida. The proposed deal brings into question Mark Sanchez’s role as the team’s starting quarterback. The Jets extended his contract less than two weeks ago, quelling rumors that the front office was looking to can the inconsistent Sanchez in favor of Manning. But with Tebow coming to town, talk of a New York quarterback…
