Jay Z: Magna Carta Holy Grail vs ROC Nation Sports

Jay-Z’s latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail dropped on July 4th and is alright, but where Hova is really tearing it up is at his sports agency ROC Nation Sports. Hova is arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time as well as being one hell of a businessman. Magna Carta Holy Grail was marketed like no album ever before with the initial announcement during the NBA finals, a Brooklyn scavenger hunt for the tracklist and exclusive Samsung tie-ins. Jigga was able to sign a deal with Samsung that allowed 1 million Samsung Galaxy owners to download the album 72 hours before its official release date. Too bad the app didn’t work correctly. Samsung…

Samsung wearable computers, Google Glass and iWatch to go head-to-head

Samsung has announced that it is heavily investing in wearable computers to compete with Google Glass and Apple’s hush hush iWatch. Samsung made the announcement the other day at the Mobilebeat conference in San Francisco. “Eventually you won’t even know you’re wearing the device, it could be the fabric in your clothing, your glasses or your watch,” said Samsung Chief Strategy Officer Young Sogn. Samsung showed audiences a concept video with their vision of how wearable technologies could be used. The beginning of the video shows a bendable mobile device that can transform from a tablet to a phone. The video also shows a disposable sensor that is put on the skin like a sticker…

Internet giants slam Singapore’s website regulations

When Singapore tightened regulations on news websites in May, the move drew predictable outrage from free speech and civil rights advocates. But the government may not have expected protests from another group: major global internet companies that do business in Singapore. On May 28 Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA) announced that online news sites that have 50,000 unique visitors per month from Singapore and that publish an average of one story per week on news in Singapore will have to follow the same regulatory framework as traditional media. The new licensing agreement currently applies to 10 sites, including the Yahoo! Singapore news site, and nine sites run by Singapore’s MediaCorp and Singapore Press Holdings. The…

Eliot ‘john’ Spitzer vs Kristin ‘madam’ Davis in NYC comptroller race

Former Governor Eliot Spitzer, who left office after a prostitution scandal, has decided to enter the NYC 2013 race for city comptroller. The former john stunned New Yorkers Sunday night when he announced his decision. It seems like getting caught with your pants down is now a prerequisite to run for political office in the U.S. Spitzer is the third disgraced politician this year to try to reinsert themselves back into the political scene after Anthony Weiner and Mark Sanford. Spitzer resigned five years ago, but says he misses policy fights and would like a chance to work on the city’s budget. “After being out of office for five years, thinking deeply, reflecting on what…

Spanish Loli-Bot catches creeps!

Catching online predators by posing as children is the method police have relied on for years. Now Spanish researchers say they’ve invented an AI honeypot that sexual predators should find irresistible. It’s a chatbot which goads anyone it chats to into professing unclean thoughts. The invention could free up thousands of police officers around the world for more important duties, such as donut inspections and marathon sitting. ENGLISH:

Wendy Davis filibuster helps Democrats kill Texas abortion bill

Texas State Senator Wendy Davis spoke for more than 10 hours in a marathon filibuster that helped Democrats block the passage of a GOP bill that critics say would have forced most of the abortion clinics in Texas to shut down. The bill known as SB 5, which is expected to be proposed again during the next legislative session, would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and require many abortion clinics to upgrade their facilities and adhere to the standards of ambulatory surgical centers. Doctors who perform abortions would need to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic. Critics say the bill’s strict provisions would have forced 37…

Xbox One does a 180: Microsoft backtracks on used games, always online policies

Microsoft has dropped several wildly unpopular features from its next generation Xbox One gaming console, including region locks, restrictions on trading used games, and the need to connect to the internet once every 24 hours to keep the device playable. The features were announced during the Xbox One reveal event at Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, Washington on May 21 and generated an immediate and overwhelmingly negative response from gamers and the media. Sony, which had suffered through the underwhelming announcement of its own next generation PlayStation 4 in March, took advantage of Microsoft’s blunder last week at E3 when it presented the upcoming PS4 as the anti-Xbox One: a console that would manage games the…

Thai Buddhist monks in private jet are big pimpin

Thailand’s Buddhism authority said it is monitoring monks for inappropriate behavior after a Youtube video showed monks wearing aviator sunglasses, carrying an LV travel bag and rocking wireless headphones while flying on a private jet. The Office of National Buddhism in Thailand said on Monday that they had seen the video earlier this year and had warned the monks from Khantitham Temple in Sisaket province. The video has caused outrage among Buddhists within the country. Seems like these monks need a refresher course in Buddha’s 2,600-year-old teachings, which stress that, “the core of those who preach Buddha’s teachings is not to own any objects at all.” In 2012 about 300 out of 61,416 Buddhist monks…

Brazil protests: Change Brazil and Free Fare Movement take to streets

More than 100,000 Brazilians have taken to the streets in peaceful protests in at least 11 cities throughout Brazil to voice frustration over public education, health, security, transportation and government corruption. The rallies, organized mainly via social media campaigns, blocked streets and stopped traffic in more than a half-dozen cities, including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. The protests began this month with a small protest in Sao Paulo against a hike in bus and subway fares. Police responded by firing rubber bullets and tear gas at the protesters and journalists. Police arrested more than 200 people and managed to injure 120 protesters and several journalists. Police claimed that they seized petrol…

Turkey’s Tayyip Erdoğan gets brutal on protests in Istanbul’s Gezi Park and Taksim Square

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s brutal crackdown on protesters in Gezi Park and Taksim Square draws fire! It all started when protesters tried to stop the destruction of one of the last green spaces in central Istanbul, Gezi Park. The police response was totally out of proportion, using pepper spray, tear gas, and water cannons on peaceful protesters. After years of imprisoning students and journalists, the public had had enough, and all walks came out in protest. But the police response just got worse, and at the height of the protests, news channels were ordered to play a documentary about penguins! Meanwhile, PM Tayyip has been hiding out in Morocco on a state visit….

Crack smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford caught on tape!

Rob Ford, proud Canadian and Toronto mayor, was caught on tape smoking crack in the ghetto. Ford is famous for his heavy drinking and conservative notions of race and sexual orientation, but crack smoking might be a new low for him. The tape is in the hands of a shady character related to Ford’s deceased drug dealer Anthony Smith, who was shot to death in front of a night club two months ago. The tape will go to the highest bidder, and it allegedly shows Ford smoking rock and laughing like a hyena. Ford should take a page from Marion Barry’s book. The famous former mayor of Washington DC was caught buying and smoking crack…
