Jon Stewart rallies the troops in Washington

Comedian Jon Stewart plans to hold a rally for viewers and fans in Washington on October 30. Dubbed the “Rally to Restore Sanity,” the event is seen as a response to a similar rally held by Glenn Beck over the summer.

Lending their support to the rally are high-profile liberals such as Arianna Huffington and Oprah Winfrey. Conservative critics allege Stewart is attempting to mobilize young viewers and influence the November 2 elections.

Indeed, the rally is seen as benefiting Obama and the Democrats, who are likely to the polls next week. Obama in turn plans to appear on Stewart’s show.

Whether Stewart’s fan base can stay energized and show up at the polls remains to be seen. November 2, after all, marks the return of the McRib sandwich at McDonald’s.

The whole point of watching these poorly made animations is to see the parody in it, and stop politicizing every little thing. Forget your B.S. viewpoints, forget your politics, forget Beck and O’Reilly, Forget Huffington, EVERYBODY gets it wrong. Just enjoy the ridiculous satire for what it is. 3 months from now noone is going to care, is whatever you happen to be plugged into at the moment that starts setting you off. Turn off Fox news and CNBC for two weeks, watch how much less stressful and easier your life becomes when you focus on feeding your kids and finishing projects around the home, rather than complaining about how republicans are corrupt palmgreasers of how deomcrats are “socialist america killers”

A lot of those grays were going to rallies as 18 -34 years olds when there was a pretty good chance a Democrat policeman would do serious damage to them with a club or dog in the Deep South or Chicago.

Aaron does not know what he is talking about. The animated stories are simply a humorous distillation of US media coverage on a particular story. NMA is holding up a mirror to the US media and permitting us a peek at the perspective of an interested outsider digesting our media buffet. If the animations are simplistic and ridiculous, that is because our media is simplistic and ridiculous. Just not as funny.

Do you honestly believe that? (Well judging by your biased website I think you do). I find this NMA animation to be poor (even by college standards). Although I commend this site for trying a new approach to showing entertainment news, it does fail in a big way.

BTW Stewart is someone who really knows his stuff and it’s sad that it takes a satirist to show what is wrong with the American system. He isn’t just some comedian who comes on and just takes a quick swing at what ever is hot in the news. He does his research and he does it really well. He knows what he is taking about and I respect him for that. It is rare to see that in the media these days with reporters and presenters throwing facts and hoping one can piece them together.

Obviously the cultural understanding is what makes it fucking hilarious (as intended), but they take a far better look at our political process than we do theirs. Not to mention we often make even stupider interpretations of our own news.
